The Annual Media Design School Bright Awards is now open for submissions!
Creativity breeds new ideas that can change society. It coats the world in colour and vibrancy. The Bright Awards are a celebration of Year 12 and Year 13 High School Students in New Zealand who are bringing their creative craft to life.
The Bright Awards provide an opportunity for students to showcase their work and support the first steps in the industry. As a winner of a Bright Award from one of the categories, you will not only be recognised as one of New Zealand’s top young creative talents to watch, but you will also earn $1000 for yourself and $3000 for your school, with your school having the chance to earn the 'Bright School of the Year Award'.

The Bright Awards are designed to encourage and recognise young talent across five key categories:
Graphic Design
In this category, MDS is looking for traditional or digital art. This can span anything from works that create a visual identity for a person or organisation (such as logos, typefaces, letterhead or posters); magazine covers or layouts; product packaging and design; designs specifically for t-shirts or apparel; or illustrations. All work should be based on original thoughts.
Photography
In the Photography category, MDS is looking for an image, or series of images, that showcase your skills as a photographer. The submissions will be judged based on creativity, the composition of the shot, and the story or narrative behind it.
Games
The Games category is open to everyone from 2D or 3D artists who have devised a concept for a game to those who have created their playable demo. MDS is looking for work that is based on original thoughts and concepts. The judges will evaluate the aesthetics of the design ideas and the functionality of the concept.
Animation
The submissions in the Animation category could be anything from a concept for a 2D or 3D character right through to an animated short film. MDS is looking for work that is based on original concepts and ideas (replication or fan art is not allowed). The judges will evaluate the potential story behind the creative output, originality, and technical execution of the animation.
Web and Interactive
Entries for this category could span anything from functional websites to interactive installations or UX projects, or even just concepts for any of the above! MDS is looking for original thoughts, concepts and ideas. The submissions will be judged based on the aesthetics of the design ideas, and the user-friendliness and functionality of the project.
