Apply to be part of the Mana Tangata Tech Leadership programme today and get paired with a tech industry mentor to help you on your journey in figuring out how technology can be part of your future. 

PROGRAMME DETAILS:

  • The programme is for 14 to 18 year old students

  • The programme will run from the 30th of April to the end of Term 3 2022

  • The first wānanga will be in Auckland on the 30th of April, during which the students will get to know each other, participate in tech workshops and be part of a guided tour in the headquarter of a tech company. They will also take part in a co-design exercise to shape the programme of the overall project and define their goals and objectives. They will explore topics of self reflection utilising some of the new Te Kete Aronui and our own resources.

  • The second wānanga will be run a three-day wānanga from Friday 27th to Sunday 29th May, during which the students will start working on their projects, identify the areas they think they need help in and be introduced to tech mentors who can best support them. They will learn to use tools that are used in the tech work environment as LEAN canvases for ideation and prototyping as well as learning skills in teamwork, public speaking and co-design. This wānanga will take place at The Institute of Awesome in Whaingaroa, Raglan.

  • On the 1st of October, we will run the final wānanga in Auckland during which the students and the mentors will present the projects they have been working on to their peers and their whānau.

  • Between Term 2 and Term 3 - The students and the mentors will meet fortnightly face to face or online to work on their projects

Criteria:

To participate in the youth leadership you will need to be between 14 and 18 years old.  Priority will be given to those applying who can identify with one or more of the following criteria:

Are at a Decile 1 - 4 school; are Maori or Pasifika; identify as female; come from a rural area; or any other demonstrable need for this programme. 

The kaupapa behind this work is to connect rangatahi who otherwise would not have access to someone in the tech industry. We understand that your unique situation may also mean you should participate so please if you feel this is the right programme for you apply.
