Ko Maikara tōku ingoa. My name is Maikara. I am originally from Ngā Puhi & Waikato. I grew up on the riverbanks of the Waikato River from Te Puaha o Waikato. I have been teaching in te reo Māori for my entire academic career and most recently have been working with at-risk youth in the Waikato region.

I speak te reo Māori as my first language, and am fortunate to be surrounded by tamariki, rangatahi and extended whānau that are the same.

Growing up, passionate about technology, I have seen first-hand how having access to resources in your own language let you place yourself into the context in a way that nothing else does.

Alongside my work facilitating PLD, I coordinate the translation of our resources into te reo Māori.

Maikara is an induction PLD facilitator through the Ministry of Education. He teaches in te reo Māori.
